Why Am I Running?
The most enjoyable time in my 26 years of public service was
when I had the privilege of serving as Cherry Hills Village
Mayor. I previously served two terms as a member of our City
Council. Then I served two terms as your elected RTD Director. I
currently serve as Chair of the Denver Downtown Development
Authority, stewarding the award of half a billion dollars for
projects in the central business district. But my best time was
when I was Mayor of “The Town That Cares!” I want to return as
your Mayor now. My two terms as Chair of the 15-member RTD Board
taught me the immense value—and the tremendous power—of
communicating, collaborating, and cooperating, and I pledge to
do that with our City Council, and with all our constituents,
when I return as Mayor!
“The Town That Cares”
Our Village is an island of splendor in the heart of one of the
most dynamic, vibrant metropolitan regions in the United States,
populated by philanthropically minded citizens. We are secluded
but not isolated, exclusive but not exclusory, insulated but not
insular. We may be viewed as out of reach, but we certainly are
not out of touch. We’re engaged! And I want to collaborate and
cooperate with our Council in continuing that engagement, while
preserving and protecting the privacy, safety, security, and
semi-rural character of our Village.
Collaboration with Council
When I return as your Mayor, I pledge to collaborate with
Council in adopting a Municipal Satellite Resiliency Initiative
to guarantee cell phone coverage in the event of emergencies,
with no new cell towers; in protecting the integrity of our land
use and zoning laws without state interference; and in providing
vital information and services to our age-advantaged residents
who want to age in place by serving as a clearinghouse and
facilitator.
My Life in Denver
After I graduated from The University of Michigan Law School, my
late wife and I moved to Denver, where she completed her legal
education at the University of Denver. We raised four children
here, who grew up and attended school in the Village. I worked
at several prominent law firms in the region, including
Brownstein Hyatt and later at Baker Hostetler, before forming my
own firm specializing in real estate and financial litigation.
Public Service
Other public service includes being Chair of the Colorado State
Board of Psychotherapists, Chair of the Colorado Neurological
Institute, Chair of the Eagle Health Care Center, Treasurer of
the Vail Valley Medical Center, Secretary on the Denver
Zoological Foundation Board, and on other healthcare and
nonprofit boards. In my spare time, I’ve been an MC and live
auctioneer for nonprofits throughout Colorado, while also acting
on stage in local theatre productions.
It would be an honor and a privilege for me to return for the next
two years as Mayor of “The Town That Cares!”
